Extensive rules and regulations apply to the transport and storage of goods. The more dangerous a product is, the tougher the requirements made of the packaging and closures.
A major part of these requirements concerns the transport of dangerous goods by road, rail, sea and air. The chosen packaging must be suitable for the filling product and must meet certain conditions. The transport of dangerous goods is controlled by UN and RID/ADR rules, among other things.
Another important regulation issue is the protection of consumer and environment. Rules for environmental protection apply in most European countries with the aim of reducing the quantity of produced packaging and reusing packaging materials. This is regulated in the member states through European laws and supplementary laws.
